A little about our farm!

Love for the land and a passion for farming runs strong throughout the Nunn Family.

Meredith Nunn was just 21 years old when she purchased the corner at
Marsh Creek Road and Walnut Boulevard and opened the Farmer’s Daughter Produce Stand. It was 1986 and she chose this location because it was just down the street from one of the orchards farmed by her father, former Brentwood mayor and farmer George Nunn. She tore down the original structure, built a new barn, and planted the orchard.

Farmer’s Daughter was Meredith’s life’s work until she unexpectedly passed away in 2019. Meredith’s niece, Hailey, along with her family, have continued Meredith’s wonderful legacy by serving the Brentwood community and providing a fun, educational location for locals and visitors to participate in the harvesting of the food they put on their tables. Meredith’s legacy also continues through annual local scholarships.

Meredith was a big supporter of helping motivated young people pursue their dreams, like she once did. Every spring we are thrilled to present scholarships at both Heritage High School and Liberty High School in her name.

Farmer’s Daughter Produce specializes in stone fruit including a variety of peaches, apricots, plums, pluots, nectarines, and apples. Visitors are invited to U-Pick their own produce, or they can purchase pre-picked fruit at the front farm stand along with a range of freshly harvested vegetables, berries, lavender, honey, and other local produce including Brentwood’s famous sweet corn.

Family Farming History

Farming attracted the Nunn Family to the rich soils of Brentwood almost 150 years ago. At just 20 years old, George Nunn (Meredith’s great-grandfather) came to town to work the grain harvest. He saw promise and a successful future living and working with the kind people of Brentwood. Slowly, other family members joined him, and they set down roots in their beautiful surroundings. They began building a farming business that is still run by third, fourth and fifth generation members of the Nunn Family. Today, the Nunn Family, supported by a team of dedicated professionals, continues a tradition of bringing superb agricultural products to California and beyond.

Hailey Nunn, a 5th generation California farmer, originally entered into the family business as a child working summers at Nunn Better U-Pick Cherries. After earning a degree in Agricultural Communications from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, she joined with her brothers to open Three Nunns Farm where they originated their tractor ride cherry picking. Now she can be found in her famous black overalls and welcoming smile running the show at Farmer’s Daughter Produce.

It was in the 1970s that Hailey’s grandfather, George Nunn, worked with other local farm families to educate the general public about farming in the “Brentwood Region.” This was the beginning of Harvest Time. Any farm or ranch in Contra Costa County was welcome to join. Today, over 60 local farms are members of Harvest Time. In 2004, the Harvest Time Board elected Meredith Nunn of the Farmer’s Daughter, as President.

With over 150 years of farming in Brentwood, we are so proud to be continuing our family’s legacy! Whether you buy our produce by the pound or by the ton, we take pride in producing the highest quality fruits & vegetables in California.
